Getting to Ålesund
Both SAS and Norwegian operate several daily flights to/from Oslo. The airport is a 10.5-mile drive from central Ålesund, and for those without their own transport, a bus shuttle operates in conjunction with every flight departure and arrival. The one-way fare for the 25 minute journey is 80kr.
Ålesund is not on the national rail network, although a public bus links the town with Åndalsnes station, 100km (62 miles) to the east. From here you can catch a train through the scenic Romsdal valley to Dombås, from where you can connect onto a train to Oslo or Trondheim. For train timetables, check NSB.
The city is pedestrian-friendly although its shape and the waterway cutting the city in two means walking between two points can sometimes take longer than you expect. Local buses are operated by Fram.
